One thing you can do … when you don’t know what to do.
Lately I have been faced with some big, confronting and scary decisions. You know the kind?
The ones that keep you awake in the wee hours. Or make your heart beat a little faster when you think about it.
You want to lift your face to the sky and ask the universe to make it for you.
Well you can. Sort of.
Here is what I’ve found helps me when I’ve got a big decision to make.
I make some tea. I take my shoes off. I go outside barefoot and feel the grass between my toes. I choose a spot on the grass in the sunshine. I lie down and feel the ground supporting me.
Knowing that the earth has your back is comforting. I make my mind go still and focus on breathing it all in and letting it all go. Then I say a prayer to the universe.
Dear presence of the highest truth and compassion. Please help me as I just don’t know what to do.
Then I think of my problem and ask for a sign.
The other day I was lying on the grass asking for guidance on a big, hairy decision. It was a beautiful spring day. I was under a cherry blossom tree with the sound of bees humming. A beautiful scent of spring drifting on the breeze.
Please, if the answer is yes may a cherry blossom petal land on my face.
Then I discovered that my heart really wanted a yes. I lay under that tree until a petal landed on my face. As I knew it would. As I willed it to do.
Once the petal kissed my cheek, I said a quiet thanks, got up and walked inside with a light heart.
Next time you are faced with making a wise choice, consider taking some time in nature. Sit quietly. Even for just a few moments.
The answer will already be there. You just need to take the time to listen.
