5 Ways to Start Before You Are Ready

This week’s concept is all about starting before you are ready, taking action on something you have been wanting to do for a while, but just haven’t felt ready. Last Sunday, we did just that – held a min-launch for the Best Life Tribe, even though key elements of our biz, namely our website and our first programs were still not ready.
And, it was OK. In fact it was great to be able to share the progress we had made (logo, Facebook page, manifesto, fun business cards) and most importantly get some feedback.
We found out very quickly that a number of people were waiting for what we had to offer (yeah!) and for some the launch raised more questions than we were in a position to answer … but it was a major step in the right direction and most importantly it propelled us forward. And now that we have gone ‘public’, our sense of responsibility to the promises we have made is continuing to propel us forward with a new kind of urgency.
Because, here’s the thing – I think none of us ever feel fully ready when we are embarking on something new and important to us. We are constantly racked with “am I enough?”, “can I really do this?” “ will it be enough?” and of course, “Jeez, what will they think?” These thoughts in some strange way are designed to protect us, to keep us safe but they also keep us small, limited and unfulfilled. It takes courage to feel the fear and do it anyway – but success, joy and awesome stuff is definitely on the other side of taking those steps – especially when you don’t feel ready.
The key for us, was to hold on very tight to each other and just keep reminding ourselves of WHY we are doing this – and then jump anyway. That’s why the Tribe is going to be so important for women exploring new things as it is so much easier to take the leap when there are people cheering you on, people that can hold you accountable and maybe even give you that gentle nudge.
So, our question to you this week is: what are you craving that you have been putting off?
Sometimes, it might be something as simple as a new haircut; hosting a party; having a difficult conversation; or something big like embarking on a new fitness challenge or starting your own business. Know that you may never feel ready, the time may never be right and those pesky ducks may never be in a row … BUT START ANYWAY.
Why? Because you deserve to chase your dreams, big and small. And when you take action, the universe conspires to support you. People start showing up that want to help, and you realise that wall you just climbed over, wasn’t really that high after all.
So, here are 5 ways to start before you are ready:
1. Write down an important goal for you and commit to starting by taking one important step by a specific date.
2. Find an accountability buddy or buddies – share that goal and ask to be held accountable.
3. Make an appointment that will move you forward towards that goal (e.g. personal trainer, accountant, etc.)
4. Release yourself from knowing HOW you are going to do it – just know that you will figure it out.
5. Aim for progress, not perfection. 80% of something is far better than 100% of nothing.
